Permira, the global private equity firm, announced that it has appointed Mr. Yoshinori Kawamura as a senior advisor of Permira.
Mr. Kawamura is the former Representative Director and Deputy President of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and has served as Chairman, President and Representative Director of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance & Lease (SMFL), and is currently serving as Special Advisor for SMFL.
Mr. Kawamura has been active on the front lines of the international financial industry for about half a century since joining Sumitomo Bank in 1975. He has a wealth of knowledge and an international network in various areas based on his 14 years of experience in the US, including Head of North America at SMBC. At SMBC he served as Head of Investment Banking and Head of International Banking. At SMFL he led the acquisition of RBS Aviation Capital and GE Capital Japan. Mr. Kawamura currently serves as an external director of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Hanshin Electric Railway, as well as the statutory auditor of DMG Mori.
With Mr. Kawamura's recent appointment, Permira’s Japan team will benefit from the wealth of experience from its deep bench of advisors including Mr. Yoichiro Furuse, Mr. Yasunori Tsuchiya and Mr. Stephen Dacus. Together they will support Japanese companies wishing to grow and expand globally. Permira will continue to look for interesting investment opportunities in the Japan market in the key sectors through which it invests: technology, consumer, healthcare and services.
