After leading the company for nearly two decades, Founder and CEO Timothy Chi will transition to a Board role.
Raina Moskowitz, Chief Operating and Marketing Officer of Etsy, will join The Knot Worldwide as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors.
NEW YORK, NY, December 5, 2024 — The Knot Worldwide, a leading global marketplace and family of brands powering celebrations, today announced the appointment of Raina Moskowitz, current Chief Operating and Marketing Officer of Etsy, as President and Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors effective January 21, 2025. Moskowitz will succeed CEO and Founder Tim Chi, who has led the company for nearly two decades and will continue serving on the Board of Directors as Vice Chair.
During her seven-year tenure at Etsy, Moskowitz shaped the company strategy, scaled numerous functions, launched innovative consumer products, advocated for small businesses and championed talent development during a period of significant growth. As COO and CMO, she leads a global team, overseeing Etsy’s Marketing, International, Strategy and Operations, Customer Support, Trust & Safety, and Impact teams. She has driven growth by expanding brand consideration, deepening customer trust and loyalty, and improving the customer experience for Etsy’s community of over 90 million buyers and 6 million creative entrepreneurs globally.
The Knot Worldwide serves an average of more than 45 million people per month globally, with more than 2,000 employees. Each year, through its global brands, The Knot Worldwide connects approximately 4 million engaged couples with nearly 950,000 small businesses in 16 countries.
Chi founded WeddingWire in 2005, after planning his own wedding, with a mission to make the wedding planning process less stressful. As CEO, Chi led the global expansion of WeddingWire, comprising leading wedding brands in North America, Europe, South America and India. In 2019, Chi was named CEO of The Knot Worldwide following the merger of XO Group Inc. and WeddingWire, Inc.
“For the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of leading this incredible company, driving innovation in the wedding industry and championing the spirit of celebration,” said Chi. “Stepping down as CEO has been a deeply personal and difficult decision, but it’s the right moment for me to focus on my family while continuing to serve the company as a member of the Board. I am immensely grateful to the talented team, loyal customers and dedicated partners who have made The Knot Worldwide what it is today. This is an exciting time for the company, as we are on track to achieve record revenue in 2024 and embark on a transformative new chapter. The Board and I are confident that Raina’s tenacity, vision and deep experience in building scaled marketplaces will successfully guide The Knot through this next chapter of growth. I have full confidence that she is the right leader to drive the company forward, continuing to serve the millions of engaged couples and the hundreds of thousands of wedding professionals who partner with us globally.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining a leading marketplace that powers celebrations worldwide and plays a key role in life’s most meaningful moments,” said Moskowitz. “In a world of increasing automation and isolation, bringing people together to celebrate milestones is more important than ever. I can’t wait to seize the opportunity to connect consumers across the globe with local businesses and bring celebration planning from inspiration to action with a joyful product experience. I have tremendous admiration for all that Tim has built, and I’m looking forward to working with the exceptional team at The Knot Worldwide to expand our community, empower small businesses and drive long-term sustainable growth.”
Prior to Etsy, Moskowitz spent 13 years as a leader at American Express in a number of strategy, product and marketing roles, including leading the U.S. customer marketing team. Since 2020, she has served on the Board of Directors of Sprout Social (NASDAQ: SPT), a provider of cloud-based social media management software. Moskowitz also serves on the Board of Tech:NYC, a nonprofit organization that engages with elected officials and civic leaders to support a thriving and inclusive tech ecosystem in the city. Moskowitz and her family live in Brooklyn, N.Y., and she is a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
